The Whale Sharks of Donsol Season 2009 - English Version
WWF Denmark and WWF Philippines have since 2007 done work on whale sharks in Donsol, Philippines. We work together with the local fishermen, who are running whale shark tourism in the season, which run from January to June. But, where are the whale sharks when they are not in Donsol? To get the answer on this we have attached satellite tags to a group of sharks. To help and support us this year we have had Brent Stewart from Hubb's Institute in San Diego - TOPPx2

The Smallest Baby Whale Shark Discovered in Donsol
On 7th March researcher Elson Aca from WWF Phillipines and BIO Gilbert Guadamor discovered what is believed to be the smallest living specimen of a whale shark in the World. Measuring only 15 inches (38 centimeters) in length. The discovery of this small shark in Donsol Philippines - and an additional discovery of yet an other small one a few days later - give strong indications that this area might be a breeding ground for whale sharks. The Whale Shark Project in Donsol is implemented by WWF Philippines and supported by WWF Denmark as part of this organizations support for conservation in the Coral Triangle.
